The Principal of Makerere University Business School (MUBS) led students, staff and partner student groups in observing National Cleaning Day, as communities across Uganda took part in the monthly exercise aimed at promoting cleanliness, responsibility and civic pride.
At MUBS, the Principal joined MUBS students and staff, the Uganda Red Cross Mivule Club, and students from Muteesa I Royal University (MIU) in the cleaning exercise.
The activity also brought together principal prof. Moses Muhwezi, Guild President HE. Walakira Ismah, other Guild leaders and the aspiring Chief Fresher Kyalimpa Joshua, who actively participated in the exercise around the university premises.
In a message shared following the activity, the MUBS Principal commended everyone who participated for their commitment to keeping communities clean and for demonstrating what the Principal described as love and pride in Uganda and MUBS.
The Principal further emphasized the importance of using such initiatives to build a culture of responsibility, service and civic pride, highlighting that maintaining clean communities requires collective effort.
The participation of the university's leadership, students, staff and partner organizations also demonstrated the role educational institutions can play in promoting community service and environmental responsibility beyond the classroom.
The Uganda Red Cross Mivule Club was among the groups participating in the exercise, bringing together students committed to community service and humanitarian activities. Students from MIU also joined their MUBS counterparts, adding a collaborative dimension to the day's activities.
For the student leaders, the exercise provided an opportunity to lead by example and engage directly in an activity that affects the wider university community.
The National Cleaning Day initiative continues to encourage Ugandans to take collective responsibility for their surroundings, while promoting a culture where cleanliness is viewed not simply as an occasional activity, but as part of responsible citizenship.
At MUBS, the day's activities underscored a shared message: a clean institution and a clean community begin with people taking responsibility and working together.
